A token economy is a system of behavior modification based on the systematic reinforcement of target behavior. The reinforcers are symbols or “tokens” that can be exchanged for other reinforcers. A token economy is based on the principles of operant conditioning and can be situated within applied behavior analysis (behaviorism).  Consumers within our program can earn Potter’s House Bucks to purchase items within The Potter’s House Store. The system defines specific learning objectives, which address individual corrective strategies that are necessary for the consumer to succeed in his/her overall interactions with peers, family members, and authority figures in school, at home, and in the community. This therapeutic method helps promote changes in delinquent behavior and thinking by using positive reinforcement for behavior. Potter’s House Bucks can be earned by some of the following ways:

Positive Behavior
Compliance with treatment programs
Reduction of school suspension/truancy
Report Cards/Homework Completion
Being respectful to adult authorities and peers
Meeting treatment goals
Family involvement
Random acts of kindness
Participation in individual, family, and group therapy
